A boy has moved many as he donated his liver to his sick mother.

People thumb up for his filial action, saying children sacrifice for their parents is rare to seen nowadays.

China Report has the story.

Peng Si, the 22-year-old young man, stands 6.1 feet tall.

Only the 30 cm-long scar would remind of the fact that he has just donated more than half of his liver.

In fact, he should be at the University of Northern Colorado in the United States now if he hasn't chosen to going back and save her mother.

Peng's mother Chen Xuemei was diagnosed with serious hepatitis in May and needed immediate liver transplant.

However, proper organ resources have been scarce.

As the clock ticking, his father had to seek hope from his son who was studying overseas.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG SI:
"My father told me about the possible plan. He asked me whether I'd like to donate my liver if I was asked to. And I said yes without a second thought."

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG HUI, PENG SI'S FATHER:
"I told him in our first phone call that his mother was seriously ill. I asked him whether he is willing to donate his liver. He said he would do anything to save his mother. I asked him not to be so hasty and think about it carefully. He said he needed no other thought."

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG SI:
"I'm still young, but my mother has been suffering. I worried more about her than about myself."

However, the plan got strong objection from Chen Xuemei.

As a mother, she didn't want to affect her son's study and future.

The deadlock only led to her worse condition. She went into coma.

Actually, the father and son have never given up the chance to carry out their plan.

At the mean time, they've secretly get everything prepared to take the liver transplant operation, only after they signed the permit.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG SI:
"The doctor asked me for the last time before I sign my name. He said I still had the chance to regret. I said I had nothing to regret, and signed my name without hesitation. "

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG HUI, PENG SI'S FATHER:
"My hands are shaking when I was signing my name. My son, on the contrary, did it very quickly. My hands kept shaking. I held the pen for about one minute before signing it."

After a 20-hour surgery, 60 percent of Peng Si's liver was successfully transplanted into Chen Xuemei's body.

Peng said what he has done was no big deal.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) PENG SI:
"I think it's natural. My mother has sacrificed a lot to give birth to me and brought me up. And now it's my chance to do something for her in return."

However, Peng Si's action was great enough in the eyes of many others.

They say Peng Si has just carried along the traditional virtue of filial piety and gratefulness.

Doctors also speak highly of Peng Si.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) GUO ZHIYONG:
"He has won praise from all of the doctors and patients in the ward. We've seen a lot of parents who donate organs to save their children. He is the first to do otherwise in the ward."

After the operation, Peng Si stayed in the hospital until his fully recovery.

Still weak though, Chen Xuemei wanted to thank her son.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) CHEN XUEMEI, PENG SI'S MOTHER:
"He's a good boy! I hope he could recover soon."

Peng Si has been discharged now. But he and his sister would often go to see her mother in the hospital.
